DON FDFS Review
DON rules this Diwali and truly. DON is the remake of 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer block buster hit don originally scripted the famous writer duo Salim-Javed who were the script writers for 1975 hit Deewar too.
The film is perhaps one of the most awaited movies of this year and had a lot of expectations. Things become more complex in re-engineering process and even minute details may sometimes are duly considered for people’s opinion. Anything it is, the factor of comparison always remains in mind. Farhan’s DON when compared to the original don, lacks that original element but still it’s a master piece worth viewing.
A very appreciating work by Farhan Akhtar, but the best from this guy is yet to be delivered. SRK, the DON, the ‘Jaan’ of the movie, lives up to the mark as usual, but what as a fact remains is the Bachchan factor that was lacking. The seriousness of Amitabh in DON and simplicity & charm in Vijay was missing. This version of don is totally new and technology dependent and also high lights some breath taking stunts by SRK. One to be mentioned is the sky diving and set of action sequences performed in air, the stunts originally performed by SRK. The plot remains same with two sets of twists revealed at regular intervals of the movie and which are unexpected, one revealed at the intermission and the other at climax/end (don’t want to play a spoil sport by revealing the plot). But one thing to add is the same set of dialogues used from old DON, were rocking and the theme of the movie was the dialogue “DON ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahi Na Mumkin Hain”. At end one may feel pity for poor Vijay & Roma. Basically plot revolves around how to make the other person ‘MAMU’. And I felt this is the only flick I know where in the good side looses. By this time u might have got to know that SRK plays a negative character in the movie.
Priyanka, gave her best performance and played the role of Roma, originally performed by Zeenath Aman. Kareena, for a special appearance, played the role of Kamini originally played by Helen. Though tried her best this time, the song lacks the old touch and feel of what it had when filmed on Amitabh & Helen. Isha, wearing small & skimpy clothes and running around DON. Two officers, played by Boman as DeSilva and Ompuri as Malik, were well performed and Boman prooved that he can fit into any kinda role. Jasjit by Arjun was performed well too but not his best. Together it was a great team work with everyone individually contributing the best for the team.
The music is one of the major highlight of the movie too. No hesitation to say that even the music was delivered one of the best by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ was a rocking number and well prepared too. Two songs were used from the original flick and the rest were new compositions. The songs used from the old flick, went well but again they lack the old touch & feel. ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ sung by Sunidhi sounds good, but one would still prefer to opt for the old version by Ashaji. And ‘Khaike Paan Bana’ was a fast number remixed & shortened from the original score. Though the song was composed well, still it lacks the original charm of Kishore, the color of simplicity & energy showed by Amitabh Bachchan & the dance foot steps.
But not everything is perfect. The movie goes very fast. The sequence of events would have been more strongly coupled. It lacks the old charm which was a major factor under consideration. And at places, one may feel that it situation could have been handled in a more better way and at instances sometimes it may be difficult to believe in the crap shown like the Ambulance scene, lifting it with a crane on a busy street of Malaysia and more ham at certain other situations. Even the plot is loose and it would have been better and understandable when copied as same from the original flick. But what needs to be really appreciated is the filming, the technology used, the stunts, the graphics and the performances by every individual in the project. Altogether, it’s a worth watch but not more than once or twice. And for SRK, he rocks as usual. Well said by someone – ‘OLD IS GOLD’. So true. 6/10 for this flick.
To add more, it would have been a better decision if a new plot would have been considered for development and the base not inspired from the old flick. To support my view, I would like to mention the breath taking stunts and technologies used, they could have been conceptualized in a better way and the characters would have been used more optimally instead of taking a bunch of them uselessly. It seems to one that, DON is fast, furious and really intelligent surrounded by dumb characters. It’s the first flick I guess where in the most advanced technology was considered to be used and on breath taking locations on par with what one sees in a Hollywood flick. The plot would have been handled in a better way based on the current, trend and situations. But still, one would not mind to invest to view this flick.
